Korean Style Spicy Pork Dish (Jeyuk- Bokkeum)

There are too many great Korean meat dishes.  Hard to pick a favorite, but this one  is definitely in my top five.  My husband and I like Korean food. That is why I like to make myself as much as I can. Trying to learn Korean  meat dish and side dishes.  I will try my best 😉

This recipe is very easy, and delicious. It has few different names. Some people call it Spicy Pork Bulgogi, or Korean Spicy Marinated Pork.  If you like pork and spicy food you better try this recipe. Please enjoy it 😉

Ingredients:

  • 2 pounds pork shoulder, cut into thin strips
  • 1 large red peppers, thinly sliced
  • 1 large  yellow pepper, thinly sliced
  • 2 medium yellow onion, thinly sliced
  • 4,5 green onions, thinly sliced
  • 6,7 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tbsp ginger, minced
  • salt and pepper  to taste
  • 1 tsp Korean red pepper powder ( Gochugaru)
  • 1 tbsp Korean soybean paste ( Tenjan paste)
  • 2 tsp Korean red pepper paste ( Gochujan)
  • 1 tsp Korean soy sauce
  • 1 tsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp + 1 tsp sesame oil
  • toasted sesame seeds for garnish
  • 1 tsp sugar or half korean pear, sliced ( I used sugar )DSC_0601DSC_0590

You can add any veggies you like or want. Some people like to use radish, chinese cabbage, or with Korean kimchi.  Sometimes  I like to make this dish with a radish kimchi. These are available at Korean and Asian markets.12279049_10201226400577573_5439140904774052231_n

This is the one I made with my pork dish the other day. It’s a Korean radish kimchi. DSC_7932DSC_7945

Directions:

  1. In a small bowl combine gochujan, gochugaru, soybean paste,  garlic, ginger, salt, pepper,  sugar, 1 tsp sesame oil,  and soy sauce. Stir well and set aside.
  2. Cut the meat thin strips into bite size pieces.  ( If you using  pork loins, use a meat tenderizer and lightly beat on meat until they are become very thin. Cut into desired, bite sized pieces thereafter ) DSC_0595

  4. In a large bowl, toss pork and peppers and 1 medium onion with marinade, cover with plastic, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour and up to 6 hours. DSC_0650DSC_0651
  5. When ready to cook heat 1 tsp sesame oil, 1 tsp olive oil in medium high heat. Add 1 medium onion and cook until softened and starting to brown.  Add marinated meat mixture and stir- fry  until cooked through. Season with salt and pepper also if you want  add more spice it’s up to you.  Transfer to a serving platter and sprinkle with sesame seeds. Serve with lettuce leaves, rice and side dishes. DSC_0655DSC_0663
